    Stock/Semi-Custom Cabinets in Sacramento

    $15,000 – $30,000typical Sacramento-area estimate

Ranges reflect typical Sacramento-area projects at this tier, not a quote — final pricing is confirmed with a free in-home assessment.

Stock and semi-custom cabinets are the right call when refacing isn't enough — the boxes are worn out, water-damaged, or you want a different configuration — but you don't need the lead time or cost of a fully custom build. These are new cabinet boxes and doors built in standard or lightly modified sizing, installed either in your existing footprint or a moderately reworked layout.

This is the tier most Sacramento kitchen remodels land on. Stock cabinets come in standard width increments (typically 3-inch steps) with a set range of finishes and door styles; semi-custom opens up more sizing flexibility, finish choices, and add-ons like matching end panels or extra-tall wall cabinets, without the full made-to-order lead time of a custom shop.

    What's Included

New cabinet boxes replace the old ones entirely — plywood construction is our standard at this tier, since it holds screws and hardware better and resists moisture longer than particleboard. Door styles range from standard shaker and raised-panel profiles to a wider set of options at the semi-custom level, in painted or stained finishes.

Sizing is where stock and semi-custom diverge. Stock cabinets fill your space in fixed width increments, which sometimes leaves filler strips where the layout doesn't divide evenly. Semi-custom cabinets can be built in finer width increments and modified depths or heights, cutting down on filler panels and fitting irregular kitchen dimensions more precisely — a difference in cost and lead time, not construction quality.

Hardware, soft-close hinges and slides, and interior organization — pull-out trash drawers, tiered shelving, pantry pull-outs — are all available at this tier and get selected during design, not bolted on as an afterthought. If your project includes a modest layout change, like moving a corner cabinet or adding a run of upper cabinets, that's within scope here; a full layout redesign around new appliance locations or plumbing moves usually points toward Fully Custom.

    What to Expect

Typical timeline: 1–2 weeks installation, plus 3–6 weeks lead time to order

Before installation starts, cabinets have to be ordered and built — plan on roughly 3 to 6 weeks of lead time depending on whether you go stock or semi-custom and how far you stray from standard sizing. Semi-custom generally runs toward the longer end of that window.

Installation itself typically takes 1 to 2 weeks: removing the old cabinets, making any wall or floor repairs the demo reveals, then installing and leveling the new boxes, hanging doors, and installing hardware. If plumbing or electrical needs to shift for a layout change, that adds time and should be scoped during the initial walkthrough, not discovered mid-install.

Is This Tier Right for You?

Stock or semi-custom is the right fit if your existing cabinets are past the point refacing can fix — swelling boxes, failing drawer glides, water damage under the sink — but you don't need a layout built around an unusual space or exact wood-species control. It's also the right call if you want a different configuration than what's there now, within reason: moving a few cabinets, not reworking the whole kitchen footprint.

Step down to Refacing if, once we look at your boxes, they turn out to be solid — there's no reason to pay for full replacement just to change the door style and finish. Step up to Fully Custom if you're dealing with an irregular space (angled walls, low ceilings, an oddly shaped island), want a specific wood species or finish that standard lines don't offer, or you're changing the layout enough that off-the-shelf sizing will fight you at every turn.

The honest middle ground is that semi-custom covers more situations than people expect — most "I think I need custom" kitchens fit within semi-custom sizing once we measure. We'll tell you plainly if your kitchen actually needs the custom tier rather than upselling you into it.
