Tile Repair is the right tier if you've got a handful of tiles — often just one — that are cracked, chipped, or rocking loose underfoot, while the rest of your floor or backsplash is holding up fine. It's the most common call we get: a dropped cast-iron pan cracked a tile, a tile near the dishwasher has started clicking when you step on it, or grout has failed around one section near a shower pan. You don't need a new floor. You need that specific problem fixed, and fixed so it doesn't come back.

This tier covers point repairs — one tile, a small cluster, or a section of failed grout — not room-wide retiling. If damage is scattered across a large percentage of the floor, or the same spot keeps failing after previous repairs, that's usually a sign of a bigger subfloor issue, and we'll tell you that honestly rather than patch it again. See the fit guidance below for where that line sits.

What's Included in a Tile Repair

Every repair starts with figuring out why the tile failed, not just swapping it out. A cracked tile from an impact is a different job than a tile that cracked because the subfloor underneath it is flexing, and a loose tile from a moisture problem needs different handling than one that was just never set with enough thinset originally. We inspect the tile, the grout lines around it, and where possible the subfloor before we start, so the fix actually holds.

For cracked or broken tile, that means carefully removing the damaged piece without disturbing the surrounding tile, cleaning out the old thinset, and setting a matching replacement. Sourcing matching tile is often the real work here — if your tile is still in production, it's straightforward; if it's an older or discontinued style, we track down the closest match available and talk through the options with you before we commit to anything.

For loose tile, we pull the tile, check what's underneath (moisture, a hollow spot, degraded thinset), address that cause, and reset the tile with proper adhesive. For failed or cracked grout without tile damage, we can often regrout the affected section without pulling any tile at all, which is faster and cheaper.

Every repair finishes with grout and, in wet areas, sealant matched to the surrounding finish, so the repaired spot blends in rather than standing out as an obvious patch.

    • Diagnosis of why the tile cracked, loosened, or the grout failed
    • Careful removal without damaging surrounding tile
    • Matching tile sourcing, including for discontinued styles where possible
    • Subfloor spot-check under loose or damaged tile
    • Grout and sealant finish matched to the existing floor

    What to Expect

Typical timeline: Most repairs: same-day or single visit, roughly 1–3 hours on site

A single cracked or loose tile is usually a one-visit job. We can often get to you same-day or next-day depending on how full the schedule is, remove and reset or replace the tile, and finish the grout in one trip. If we need to source a matching tile that isn't something we carry, that can add a day or two before the repair visit while we track it down.

Thinset and grout need time to cure before the area sees regular foot traffic — typically 24 hours for light walking, longer if it's a wet area like a shower floor. We'll tell you exactly what to avoid and for how long before we leave.

Larger repairs — a cluster of loose tiles, or grout and waterproofing work across a wider section — take longer and may need a scheduled return visit rather than a single stop, especially if a section needs to dry before finishing.

Is This Tier Right for You?

Repair is the right call when the damage is isolated: one tile, a small cluster, or a section of failed grout, with the rest of the floor solid. It's fast, it's the least expensive of the three tiers, and it doesn't disturb tile that's doing fine.

It stops being the right call when the underlying cause is spread out rather than local. If loose or cracked tile keeps showing up in different spots, or a subfloor inspection shows moisture or flex affecting a broad area, patching tile by tile just delays a bigger fix — that's when a full New Installation, tearing out the affected area and re-laying it properly, saves you money over repeated repair visits.

If your existing tile is discontinued and we can't find a close match, you've got a choice: accept a near-match patch, or treat it as an opportunity to redo the whole area with new tile for a uniform look — which moves you into New Installation, or Custom/Patterned if you want to use the change as a chance to add a design element like an accent border or a different layout.
